Ford’s Driveability Test Facility in Dearborn, Michigan has HVAC equipment situated high up on top of the roof where the cooling towers and air coolers are mounted on a steel structure. There is a 6-8 foot exposed area beneath the towers and above the roof where valuable equipment and the sump area are located.
The problem was pigeons continually roosting in this covered but exposed area beneath the towers. There could be 50-60 pigeons roosting in this shaded area at any one time. The feathers and droppings of the pigeons created quite a mess which was not only unpleasant to work in, but had a corrosive and damaging impact on the equipment. The challenge for the customer was to keep the pigeons out of this area.
In partnership with Tower Service & Supply, Galebreaker came up with a fixed birdnet solution. Galebreaker surveyed and measured the opening around (2) different structures. The BN25 Birdnet Material was installed around the circumference of these two openings by Tower Service & Supply making a tight fit where Pigeons could not access for shelter.
The benefits to our customer were significant. No longer is continual maintenance required to clean up the mess from the pigeons. The equipment is free from potential corrosive damage, easier to maintain and bird free! The potential safety hazard created by the abundance of birds was eliminated.
Eric Greenslade, Ford Engineer, commented, “After the screens were installed, our problem was all but eliminated. There are still two very persistent pigeons that have found a hole and are able to sneak in, but other than those pesky little sneaks, the Birdnet Screens work great!”
