Air Cooled Condensers

  • Wind Shear and Loss of Airflow
  • Decline in Thermal Performance
  • Fan Vibration
  • Fan Blade Damage
  • Recirculation

Winterization

Winterization is often required for industrial cooling equipment to prevent the damaging effects of high wind, low ambient temperatures, and icing conditions. Failure to protect against low ambient temperatures can cause both operational and performance problems. Extreme conditions can result in structural damage to the equipment such as water leakage and fill collapse.

New call-to-action

Recirculation

The interaction of high wind speeds with hot air plumes from the ACC structure generate complex vortices which can re-circulate hot air back into the fans. This increases the air inlet temperature, reducing cooling capacity and thermal performance.

New call-to-action

Airborne Debris

Clogging and fouling of internal cooling tower components restrict airflow which results in a decrease in the thermal performance of your crossflow or counterflow equipment. Foreign materials such as airborne seeds, insects, bugs and debris are drawn inside the cooling tower fill and are often difficult, time consuming and expensive to remove.

New call-to-action

Plume Abatement

Evaporative cooling towers reject heat into the atmosphere in the form of warm saturated air. The larger the heat rejection, the more water will be rejected into the environment. Under the right atmospheric conditions this warm saturated air can cause thick visible clouds (pluming) as well as dangerous icy conditions on the ground.

Our solutions maximise power station efficiency

Each of our solutions is designed to optimise your cooling system’s performance, which will maximise the overall efficiency of your power plant. Here’s how we can help you:

Minimise repair costs

Extreme weather, especially low temperatures and ice can cause internal structural damage to your cooling tower system, leading to expensive repair costs. Many of our solutions protect your system from harsh weather – our winterization screens keep ice out, while our wind screens prevent fan vibration and reduce the impact of high winds.

Improve airflow and thermal performance

Internal clogging and fouling of your cooling tower components restricts airflow and reduces cooling efficiency. By installing Galebreaker debris filters, you can prevent the build-up of bacteria and damage from airborne foreign materials, improving airflow and reducing maintenance costs.

Reduce recirculation with CFD Modelling

Hot air can be blown back into the air inlets of your cooling system, reducing heat rejection capability. Galebreaker uses CFD Modelling to analyse current airflow patterns in and around your air-cooled condenser or cooling tower. With this performance data, we recommend an optimum wind screen solution to prevent or significantly reduce recirculation, improving thermal efficiency and overall plant performance.

Cost-effective plume control

Rejected heat from evaporative cooling towers can cause thick visible clouds (pluming) as well as dangerous icy conditions on the ground. Galebreaker rolling door and screen solutions vary airflow at the right time to maintain plume abatement without affecting the performance of your tower.
