Graduate or Placement Opportunity – Ventilation and Animal Welfare Analyst
Galebreaker specialise in products that guard against the elements and provide the optimum environment for livestock in many agriculture sectors. Our products are designed to improve health and productivity outcomes for livestock, and we are proud to be the market leader for more than 35 years.
In leading the way in smart farm building control systems, we are able to monitor environmental conditions from sensors (temperature, humidity, NH3, CO2), livestock intake of feed and water, as well as actively control systems for natural and mechanical ventilation. Galebreaker are active in the use of these systems in the pig sector in the UK (as well as other sectors) and are offering a student scholarship to the right candidate that can link this data to animal welfare and productivity outcomes.
We are looking for a confident and methodical student who can work with UK farmers to produce evidence-backed Case Studies, which demonstrate the importance of the housing environment and ultimately the role Galebreaker products can play in improving livestock outcomes.
•To be aware of current theories and existing research into the environmental considerations for pig, dairy and other livestock sectors.
•Identifying relevant environmental data points for study and sourcing relevant sensors and monitoring equipment.
•Through research and discussions with farmers, understand the most important livestock outcomes (e.g. including daily live weight gain, livestock health, animal behaviour, monitoring feed and water consumption) and current issues they contend with.
•Devise a research methodology whereby livestock outcomes can be measured before and after Galebreaker product installation.
•Use statistical analysis to demonstrate correlation, and understand potential causation
•Present research internally to Technical, Sales and Market Support Teams and externally to interested parties.
•Seek publication opportunities for research.
At Galebreaker we consider it just as important that our employees have the right attitude and values in their work than just their ability to carry out the role. Training is always provided where required.
