Healthy airflow is the foundation of high‑performing livestock housing. Effective ventilation reduces disease risk, minimises heat stress, and supports overall herd performance. For more than 40 years, we’ve developed products designed to address the challenges caused by inadequate airflow. Our approach always starts with getting natural ventilation right before considering mechanical alternatives.
Natural ventilation is a free way to maintain air quality in livestock housing, using cross‑winds and the stack effect. As livestock generate heat, warm air rises and exits through ridge outlets, drawing in fresh air through side inlets.
Traditional ridge systems, such as cranked tiles, often fall short, limiting the efficient removal of warm, contaminated air. Galebreaker’s VentRidge has been purpose‑engineered to overcome these limitations.
Using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling, VentRidge has been tested under a range of cross‑wind conditions to ensure optimal performance. Results show it can be up to four times more effective at exhausting warm, contaminated air than conventional ridge designs, helping to create a cleaner, healthier internal environment for livestock.

Product Details
Galebreaker VentRidge is a retrofit ridge ventilation solution designed to improve natural exhaust airflow to support an optimal environment. Suitable for buildings with purlin widths of 50–80 cm, VentRidge features a covered ridge design that enhances ventilation efficiency without exposing the interior to rain or snow.
The system accommodates roof slopes of 12.5–17.5° as standard, with the option to extend up to 22° using deeper wind baffles. Galvanised steel trusses and wind baffles optimise airflow extraction and durability, while a steel or translucent roof sheet covers the ridge opening, maintaining weather protection and allowing optional natural light.
VentRidge has the added bonus of being installed from the inside of the building, avoiding the need for expensive safety netting.
